"European Digg" completed the first round of investment

Wikio, the owner of the service of the same name , completed the first round of financing . Lightspeed Venture Partners and Gemini Israel Funds invested $ 5.3 million in it. Financial investments from angel investors also preceded these investments (the amount of these investments was not disclosed).

Wikio, as expected by its developers, will compete with Digg.com. The service is a personalized news page, which is formed on the basis of the topics selected by the user: on the thematic page appear the materials that have received the most votes of users. In addition, it is possible to display the results of a search query on the news (the aggregator acts in much the same way as Google News or Yandex.News).

The project has been operating since June 2006. The English, German, Spanish and Italian versions of the site were launched in December 2006.
