Microsoft will force users to update Windows 10

Yesterday, Microsoft announced the release date of Windows 10 - July 29, 2015. Also yesterday, users of Windows 7 & 8 / 8.1 were able to see in the update area the icon of a running GWX process (Get Windows X). The GWX files are located in the C: \ Windows \ System32 \ GWX directory and will be present there only if the KB3035583 update is installed . This process prompted users to “reserve” their copy of Windows 10 for timely updates. In the future, GWX will be used to upgrade to Windows 10.

Earlier, we wrote that for home users of Windows 10, Microsoft will deliver updates as soon as they are available, thus refusing the less secure patch tuesday model, in which all released updates had to wait one day. Now it became known that for home users the updates will be installed automatically after downloading and the user will not be able to prevent or delay their installation.

The above KB3035583 update ( Update for Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 SP1 ) is mandatory for upgrading to Windows 10. The GWX directory contains the config.xml configuration file, which lists in stages the process of obtaining a copy of the new version of Windows. The presence of updates can also be checked in the list of installed updates “Control Panel-> Programs and Features-> View Installed Updates”, then Search KB3035583.
