When companies become larger, they less and less reflect the views of their creators. They become less original in their actions, they talk more about building a business and less attention is paid to "trifles" like a product. Companies begin to form business processes, and intuition and fan give way to careful analysis.
To wake up in the morning with the idea and immediately open the laptop and start to implement it — it is impossible: first you need to study the market, develop a plan, distribute responsibilities ... I call it
“Dictate Lost Profit” : when the enthusiasm of the creative process is replaced by anxiety for unearned dollars.
When a fascinating ideology is translated into a practical plane, it loses its appeal. Rough monetization ruins sociality. It happened with a lot of promising startups, it can also happen with the “coworking” movement, if the desire of its enthusiasts “to make money” will overpower the desire to unite and create.

What did young Paul Newman do in his first “The Hat Factory”? Did he create a profitable business? Did Google buy it for collecting 20 IT people in a dusty attic? Not. Newman did a lot more - what I wrote about in the
“Retrospective of Success” : I saw the emerging need, appreciated the nascent trend and jumped into it first.
What did Hunt and Messina do at Citizen Agency? “We were pleased to create a place where people can come and work, create things that serve the community,” says Messina. What did Thor Muller do in “Get Satisfaction”? “I opened several such offices for friends who are ready to come and work together,” he says. Coworking is not a place for preying on freelancers. Such an approach violates its basic principles, such as cooperation, openness, sociality, sustainability and accessibility.
It is rather open source work and open source ideas, creative and productive atmosphere. And the community of professionals of a certain warehouse of thinking. Now the same trend is unwinding in Russia. We must develop it, fan the flames; the simple transformation of coworking into a business will extinguish the fuse. Therefore, I am very wary of the guys who are trying to earn extra money on the still new movement for us.
After all, exactly the same way they fucked up the profession of a manager, consultant or designer, calling these dilettantes indiscriminately with these words, one can also fuck up the co-working ideology by turning it into “renting a working space”, a “communal office” or something more like that. And I’m not going to have a second chance, I'm afraid. Sorry, Paul.
I'm sure: coworking is not a business. By no means a business.
