At one time, we already started talking about the KVM Management Tool, and many questions were asked - are we planning to release the Nutanix version “for everyone”.
In short: we have planned and are already
releasing a “genie from a bottle”.
Now you can get a cloud solution of the highest level of functionality, including unique distributed KVM hypervisor control, data backup, compression, deduplication, etc. (hundreds of features) on almost any server hardware (for tests I tried HP G7 DL380 for example - everything works fine ). Is free.

The screenshot is a “cluster” of one node.

- 1, 3 or 4 (note! 2 servers - not supported) servers (or “node”) with 4+ cores and support for Intel VT-x,
- at least one SSD disk (all-flash (!) is also possible) from 200GB,
- 1 or more HDD (cold storage) from 500GB
- 16+ gigabytes of RAM (obviously, 64+ is better if you plan to run serious virtual machines),
- 1G or 10G network card (for a number of reasons, only Intel is supported)
Replication factor 1 is supported (for one node, no data protection) or 2 (for 3 or 4 nodes)
The CE edition is based on the “combat” NOS 4.1.3 (i.e., you will have the most up-to-date version of NOS for free), but Metro Cluster, backups to Amazon and Prism Central (multi-cluster management) are not included in the package yet.
Everything else, including
Disaster Recovery - is fully accessible.
Software updates are “one-click”, and for full clusters, without stopping the service (on the fly).
The installation is very simple, you need to download the image of the CE edition and burn it to a USB flash drive (from 8 gigabytes), from which it will be downloaded later.
Some examples of management:
Virtual machines

Network management (yes, including the distributed switch),

VLAN, DHCP

Cloning, live migration

Console (examples of Windows 2012r2, 2008r2, FreeBSD, Linux)

Snapshots / data protection

Deduplication / datastor compression

And many many others.
In fact, the solution that is used by the largest corporations / government services in the world is now available to everyone.
CE editorial support is provided by the
Nutanix Next Community community , with steady demand - we will do the Russian section.
From personal recommendations, use LSI SAS controllers
stitched in IT mode (there are many instructions available on the Internet how to do this), since almost all hardware RAID adapters do not benefit (Nutanix works faster and more reliably at the software level), but they cause problems due to for the presence of performance-limited controllers / caches, as well as poorly predictable latency.
The official announcement and “access for all” is at our global
Nutanix Next conference in Miami, where many very interesting speakers will be speaking (including Condoleezza Rice).
Questions?
ps we are constantly working to improve the product, it is possible to change the specifications and functionality.
