AMD computers disconnected from Windows XP update

Microsoft announced the introduction of a special filter on the Windows Update website that blocks access to the SP3 update for Windows XP computers with AMD processors, which are suspected of having an “endless reboot” problem. This is the first time that Microsoft has assumed responsibility for solving a hardware problem with users, and already the second time during a month when Microsoft disconnected a certain contingent of users from receiving the third “service pack”, although it has a high priority.

The “endless reboot” problem is that after downloading the update, when you try to download the updated intelppm.sys driver, a “blue screen” occurs, and the computer automatically restarts an infinite number of times.

This "glitch" is observed on PCs with AMD processors, on which a disk image is copied from an Intel machine. Some collectors (including HP, which has already promised to release a patch) made the same mistake when installing Windows XP in a massive way, although Microsoft warned them back in 2004.

Previously, computers with the installed Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) retail program were already disconnected from the update, because the service pack could damage and destroy the program database.
