Service Scribd, introduces a ban on the publication of porn materials

TechCrunch , Scribd service, also called “YouTube for documents,” reports on an interesting undertaking. In its blog, it announced that from May 21 it will begin to remove all pornographic materials from the site.

Over the next month, we will update the Terms of Service , which prohibit the download of pornographic documents and images. It is absolutely clear that the restriction of the pornographic content of the Scribd platform will be useful for all site users - teachers, parents, students and publishers. Starting today, a weekly grace period is given to allow users and fans of adult content to download it to their computer before it is removed from the site.

It became curious, really in the “Terms of Service” was not prescribed to ban the publication of porn content? Looked, there is such a point:

8.4. It can be objectified, offensive, indecent, pornographic , invasive, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive, or otherwise inappropriate.

Then it becomes even more interesting what will be changed there, which will force users to refuse to receive non-small traffic.

Scribd is the brainchild of a business incubator: YCombinator , since its launch in March 2007, the site has had impressive growth, and at the moment, the service is visited monthly by 17 million visitors. In addition, new features have recently been added, including the API, and instead of FlashPaper, the iPaper document viewing service has been added, through which authors can earn money. The site has already had claims from NSFW that it receives a significant part of the traffic from pornographic and pirated materials. The group “for adults” is one of the largest and most active on the site.

Six months after the launch of Scribd, CenterNetworks conducted a mini-study in which he found that the most popular search queries for the service were:

* how to eat pussy
* how to make lsd
* kamasutra
* eating pussy

In the process of studying the issue, I noticed that already many groups are either already deleted or closed for viewing by unregistered users.

Jason Kincaid from TechCrunch reasons:
Should we expect a decrease in traffic after applying tough measures? Unlikely. Pornography may have helped Scribd gain momentum in its infancy, but the site has long proved its worth as a tool for blogs and as a repository for documents.
