Report by Alexey Bragin at the Russian Open Source Summit 2015

On March 16, 2015, the Russian Open Source Summit took place once again in Moscow.

ROSS 2015 was intended to highlight the qualitatively new role of Open Source as the main driver of the development of modern information technologies in the era of clouds, mobility and social networks. Only the ideology of Open Source today allows to put into practice the concept of a universal technological platform that ensures the interoperability of information systems and services of various manufacturers. Open Source projects of the OpenStack cloud operating platform, software-defined networks (SDN), container automation technologies for deploying and managing applications in a virtualization environment (Docker, Rocket, etc.) can serve as vivid examples.

Over the years, I have raised the topic of monopolism in the area of ​​client operating systems and the need to develop an open, compatible alternative. In modern realities, when the moment about which so much has been said has already come, you can look at the problem in a new light - from the point of view of crowdsourcing. The development of the operating system ReactOS (http://www.reactos.org) - Windows-compatible open source operating system has always been carried out mainly in this way.
