Octodon again became collapsible

Hello, Habr.
Under the cut - a small but important update for those interested in the process of developing a fast and accurate compact Octodon keyboard.
Background: from the very beginning , from the last series .

In the fall, we stopped at the release version of a separate device that connects to Android and iOS devices via Bluetooth, which can be attached to a smartphone using magnetic attachment, or used as an independent input device with tablets, desktops, or smart-TV.

During the optimization of the ergonomics of the device, we made two significant changes:
1) Octodon began to fold in half and fit into almost any pocket. Its dimensions are 128x70x10mm.
( 3D model when folded )
2) In the unfolded state, it became much more comfortable in the hands due to the increase in its thickness when unfolding.

As a result of the use of the new transformation, the most convenient unit in the history of octodonbuilding has turned out. The device with a thickness of 1 cm acquires the grip of a good joystick, which is critical for the convenience of a ten-finger print:

In addition, within the framework of this concept, the questions of communication between moving parts of the device were rather simply resolved.

At present, we are working to simplify the device case in such a way that the accuracy of conventional FDM printers is sufficient for its manufacture. Now this is mainly prevented by the teeth of gears that synchronize the opening of the valves. Ideally, the Octodon mechanics can be assembled, having access to technologies for laser cutting of thin metal and FDM-3D printing.

The latest information on the project is available in our social. networks. Before the start of our crowdfunding campaign, we finally redesigned our site and launched the Russian version. There you can find additional information, FAQ, as well as additional graphic and video materials of the new prototype.
A new prototype Octodon has recently been discussed on geektimes .
