Welcome to the first Moscow AndroidDevs Meetup on April 23



On April 23, the first Moscow AndroidDevs Meetup will take place at the Mail.Ru Group's Moscow office. This is an open informal meeting for all Android developers in Moscow. The program of the event includes reports by our Android programmers, and afterwards, discussion and communication of like-minded people in a free environment.

Mikhail Chabanov in the report “Android WebView: actual problems and their solutions” will tell about the difficulties in working with interfaces injected into JavaSctipt and the difficulties in determining the page load status in WebView and their solution. It will also be about ways of interacting with WebView’s built-in media page, WebView notifications about system calls: onBackPressed, onStop, onStart. Mikhail will also consider security issues when working with WebView.

Alexander Zatsepin in the report “Google Cloud Messaging: Owl, Unlock! Push has come ”will share the experience of using the Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) service in a mobile client, and also will tell about some implementation details on the server. In addition, Alexander will discuss the problem of delivering messages to the client, talk about monitoring problems, and also pass on successful cases and solutions.

Alexander Marchuk will reveal the theme of the design in the ICQ application. You will receive a story about how the team painted ICQ, how your bike was written to support external themes, what difficulties they faced and why, in the end, they abandoned it.


Alexander Panteleev in the report “Effective work with SQLite” will consider approaches to optimizing work with databases on the example of the ICQ application. For a start - a small overview of the overall structure, organization of data storage and indexes. Next are examples of basic requests for reading and writing data, working with transactions from a performance point of view, as well as some sample solutions for working with data within business logic. Authors of applications with frequently changing structure will be interested to discuss the issue of updates and data migration. Finally, separate attention - important parameters of the database: cache size, type of log and others.
