US economy hinders the growth of social networks

Analytical agency eMarketer has reduced the forecast on the volume of advertising in social networks for 2008 from $ 1.6 billion to $ 1.4 billion. The reason is the slowdown in the growth of the American economy, as well as the uncertainty of specialists in the effectiveness of advertising through social networks. However, the first factor seems to be more significant, because all sectors suffered as a result of the mortgage crisis, even Silicon Valley is depressed following the US economy . Although in fact it is not clear which reason is more significant.

Forecasts of advertising budgets were reduced for all major sites: MySpace was “blown away” from $ 850 million to $ 755 million, Facebook - from $ 305 million to $ 265 million, etc. The plate shows the numbers for 2006-2012 (million dollars), as well as growth in percent for each year relative to the previous one.
