Dell has released a secure data center for the military

Big Data Goes to War

Data processing is now needed everywhere, especially in need of the military, no matter in the headquarters or in the field. But it can be difficult for the military to keep in touch with a data center located hundreds or even thousands of kilometers away from the scene of hostilities. But why not take the data center with you? Such a solution offers the company Dell, which announced its Tactical Mobile Data Center.

Naturally, such a system can be used not only by the military, but also by scientists, oil workers, geologists, everyone who needs computing power, and almost every day. The Tactical Mobile Data Center is based on a modified ISU-96 container, which is commonly used by the military, and often comes with a cooling unit. Placing computer systems in such a container, which has already proven itself as a reliable protection during transportation, is quite a logical step.

Inside there are 3 42U units, or 1 volume 120 U. There are also three distribution systems for energy supply, which take up little space. There is also a fire suppression system, built-in air cooling with a backup ventilation system. The data center comes with an external copper, fiber or BNC connection to communicate with the world. A total of 4.5 tons of computer equipment with a power consumption of 45 kW can fit in such a container, in a 3 42U unit.

The basic kit ISU-96 involves the acquisition of a cooling system based on glycol. Also inside the backup battery. All this can be powered from the generator. When buying a system, you can add various options, which slightly raise the price of the total purchase.

The system is equipped with security monitoring systems, including video cameras and intrusion detectors, plus if the military buys the container, then there is the possibility of putting up regular security - this is the choice for the customer. The system can be transported using the Lockheed Martin C-5 Galaxy and C-130 Hercules, Boeing C-17 Globemaster, and McDonnell Douglas KC-10, a data center certified for 3G flights. Mobile data center can be transported by air and with the help of Boeing CH-47 Chinook, as well as transported by rail or road.

The data center is protected from weather, sand and dust. If there is a source of energy, you can “start” the system rather quickly.

The basic package costs $ 2,21500, and this price does not include the cost of the server, file storage, and the switch from Dell or other companies. Also, the price does not include the cost of AC / UPS Pack, power systems. Currently, the price of AC / UPS Pack has not yet been announced.

According to representatives of Dell, the US military became interested in the project, and potential clients from other countries also appeared.
