Let's Lab. IS-IS routing protocol. Part 3

Hi, Habr!

Have you ever tried to shoot a bow? Probably not the most popular activity. What about skates and rollers? Hundreds of times I have seen people, equipped with all sorts of protective devices on all parts of the body, subject to the worldwide law of injury, cause themselves injuries. Whereas experienced athletes ride for months without a single fall.

All because of the lack of practice. Spend at least a month behind the books, and, probably, you will achieve less than in 2 weeks with a lab on the subject studied.

IS-IS can easily be called a strange protocol. But he is only in theory. In practice, we encounter the same problems that kept us safe while using other IGP protocols. Its main goal is to distribute routing information and make decisions on its addition to the routing table.

This release was longer than I expected. More than an hour of information, not everyone is able to master at one time. Due to circumstances, I can not split the video into two issues.

See in this part:

- Basic IS-IS configuration on Cisco IOS and IOS-XR;
- The establishment of a neighborhood between routers;
- Debug and traffic dump analysis when a neighbor is detected;
- Protocol metric and its setting;
- Hello and Hold timers and their quirks;
- Hello-padding;
- Links with multiple access and DIS;
- Exchange between L1 and L2 bases. ATT bit value;
- Announcement of prefixes from BGP to IS-IS;
- External routes and their metrics;
- How to avoid loops when importing from L2 to L1;
- Asymmetric routing and Suboptimal routing;
- Be cool, tune the role of each link correctly.

With your criticism, you can influence the next issue. For the better.
