Sales of music on the web doubled in 2006

According to the Associated Press , on Wednesday a representative of the International Federation of Phonographic Industry ( IFPI ) said that in 2006, sales of music through the Internet almost doubled and amounted to more than $ 2 billion in total - 10% of the music market.

However, IFPI notes that sales of music on the Web have noticeably slowed down compared to the year 2005, during which they have tripled.

Federation Chairman John Kennedy said that the trade in digital music should compensate for the fall in demand for physical media (mainly CD).

The most active buyers live in the USA, Great Britain and Japan, but Kennedy hopes that this year it will be possible to expand this list to at least 10 countries.

According to IFPI, the development of the industry should give rise to the popularity of music gadgets, for the most part - phones with built-in players from Nokia, Sony Ericsson and, how else, Apple.

Recall that we have previously written about the report of the company Nielsen SoundScan on the same topic.
