About highway

Hello!

Over the past six months, you may have seen at once a whole bunch of our posts about how all sorts of interesting things are mounted somewhere far to the east and north.

Yellow - own lines or exchange. Red - satellite, blue - rent, orange - IRU (Indefeasible right of use). Continuous line - existing, long dotted line - construction or test operation, short dotted line - planned for construction. We have already replaced one of the lines planned on the map with IRU.
')

Laying of PTA (protective polyethylene pipe) in the ground. Then an optical cable is blown into this tube.

I just want to tell you that we have done a lot of work there on the highway, which is why at last the compacted optics reached or reached in 2015 the furthest points.

General situation

The story is this: at the dawn of network development, we contacted these regions via satellite (in fact, even now a fairly large number of points work through orbital jumps). The satellite is not the fastest channel and the resource is rather limited. Therefore, with the development of 3G networks, new trunk lines were required. If the central part of Russia was covered by optics rather quickly, then it was here that the large traffic became commercially justified only in the last 5-6 years. And we just came with our rings to the region of the Far East.

The usual picture of the construction, the PTA on the reel on the orange car. The machine is called a "plow."

Inside, we began to build new lines, exchange our colleagues' lines, buy existing branches, enter into long-term lease agreements with other backbone providers. For example, in the region there are a lot of good lines of Rostelecom (here are the skinshots from their site):

When Rostelecom builds the line, as a rule, the entire big three operators follow the project with interest (lease negotiations are often under way).

Specific points of interest

From Krasnoyarsk to Irkutsk, we have a DWDM (dense wave compression, 88 channels per branch) - more than 100 Gbit / s per wavelength. The construction of the network continues from Irkutsk, we plan to finish it up to Khabarovsk this year. Technically, the line is ready to Chita, now is commissioning. In April, we plan to launch.

Once again, the map so as not to flip through

Further from Chita to Khabarovsk - under construction, we plan to finish in November-December of this year (if there are no surprises). Khabarovsk-Vladivostok - one line exists. We are planning the second backup line by summer: we are building our own, because now the backup channel is leased.

Now look at the section from Krasnoyarsk to Kansk, conditionally designated by two arcs. Physically, the two lines there are a few hundred kilometers of the highway (two physically separated routes).

Nearby you can see one more part of the ring on Bratsk, it is being built now, the delivery is planned in the summer. There are some of the most difficult soils in the region, so it was very difficult to provide a normal infrastructure for construction. In the past, similar construction, for example, in difficult ground near Vorkuta in the Urals, we have a bulldozer somehow frozen to the very cabin. Walked thinner, failed in the fall. While we were driving for something in order to “pull” it - a little bit more trap and finally got stuck. Then they froze, and he also froze for complete happiness. Until spring, he would have become a beautiful local secret monument, so they began to heat the earth around the fires, then cut out a whole layer of soil to get it. Local people laughed for a long time and habitually, their “pull out of the slurry” fun is traditional.

Building

Machines cut the ground at a depth of half a meter at a minimum, then a trench is made, then a PZT or cable and warning tape are put into this trench, then everything is buried:

But this happens when traffic jams do not have time to drive. In Russia, we solved the problem with a tape, and in Europe we would delay work until the arrival of traffic jams and reinforcements:
