Powerset: search in a new way?
The company Powerset, which has already been mentioned several times over the past couple of years as a promising startup, yesterday was “sold out” by the search service of the same name . Unlike the "standard" search engines, Powerset offers the user a search for facts, deciphering the meaning of values and answers to asked questions. Currently, the search engine uses Wikipedia and Freebase resources as a database.
"Having played" some time with inquiries and scrolling through the lists of issue, I didn’t really get excited. But the emotions are generally positive. To begin with about cons. First, the claimed Freebase in the issuance lists could not be found. The search goes only on the articles Wikipedia. Secondly, the search is carried out only by keywords in English. Russian Powerset refuses to understand. Well, okay, the developers did not initially plan to support multiple languages. I hope that in the future they will correct this “defect”. I also note that Wikipedia cannot answer all the questions. Accordingly, Powerset too.
But what is - is captivating. Convenience (cute, "usable" and without unnecessary bells and whistles), a simple and very complete selection of information found on a particular phrase or question. So (refer to the examples on the search engine site itself), if you enter the phrase "actors in pulp fiction" in the search field, Powerset will not only display a list of actors who starred in "Pulp Fiction" (with photos, if any), but also Heap additional information as about actors, so and about the film. Interesting and promising. Another would be to try it all in Russian ...
