100 million do not save IE

Despite Microsoft ’s recent announcement that the new version of Internet Explorer has downloaded 100 million users, the statistics show a decrease in the number of its “fans”.

In December 2006, according to Net Applications statistics, the share of Internet Explorer users in the United States fell by 1% and amounted to 79.6% (as compared with November of the same year). The proportion of Firefox gaining momentum has increased to 14% (in November - 13.5%), Safari - 4.2%, Opera - 0.9%.

According to Net Applications statistics, the share of IE7 increased from 8.8% in November to 18.3% in December (by 9.5%), but the share of IE6 decreased by 10.2% (to 60.7%).

InformationWeek notes an important detail: Microsoft distributes its browser through the automatic update system of the Windows operating system, while the creators of Firefox do not yet offer a second version of their browser through the built-in update system (distribution is scheduled for mid-late January).
