Napster acquires AOL music service

AOL and Napster have signed an agreement whereby Napster will become a media content provider for AOL Music Now users, reports Reuters .

In fact, Napster purchased the music part of AOL Music Now for $ 15 million: at least now the corresponding page on AOL invites you to visit Napster.com. Time Warner's Internet unit will support Napster with banners and links on most of its sites.

AOL service specializes in the distribution of media content on a fee basis; it has 350,000 users. Napster is a famous music distribution service, closed in 2001 due to numerous claims of copyright infringement. In 2003, it was acquired by Roxio and opened as a legal service. Since 2005, Napster shares are listed on the NASDAQ.
