The recently released Service Pack 3 for Windows XP generates an error that causes the computer to constantly reboot. Interestingly, the problem concerns only PCs with AMD processors.
There are no official comments on Microsoft on this topic yet. But Microsoft’s former security manager, Jesper Johansson, in his blog has already identified two most likely causes of the problem. The first concerns power management. According to Johansson, Hewlett-Packard, as well as possibly other PC makers, used the same image when installing Windows XP on computers with different processors. In which power management is responsible for the intelppm.sys driver, which conflicts with AMD processors for which there is its own amdk8.sys driver. The second possible reason is most likely related to the BIOS of the motherboard ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe. Johansson suggests that you can solve the problem in the first case simply by disabling the intelppm.sys driver. And in the second - by connecting a USB flash drive before booting the PC.
PS At the expense of removing the driver, everything is clear. But with a flash drive, I honestly do not think. Is it dancing with a tambourine? Enlighten how can a connected external drive affect this BIOS issue? ')
