Let's Lab. IS-IS routing protocol. Part 1

Hi, Habr.

Routing is fun. And IGP routing is also fast. There are, of course, enthusiasts who lack all the variety of solutions, and as a result we see such funny implementations as thousands of static routes or iBGP's complete dominance in small grids.

But today we will not cram an elephant into the eye of a needle. The topic under discussion is already 100 years old at lunchtime, but I’ve increasingly witnessed how the honored protocol recognizes the lot of perverts. And I'm talking about integrated IS-IS.
Since Cisco cut out the topic from the CCNP R & S, all and sufferers began to throw slippers at the poor fellow. They say “we go where frame relay and x25 are buried, we have OSPF”. Yes, let's just call you fools and lazy biggest providers, maybe they really don’t want to keep up with the times?
')
I think the whole point is that not many novice engineers encounter in their work with this protocol. By the way, the CCNP Service Provider did not ignore the topic. And those who follow the path of Juniper may not have such prejudices at all. Wanted to pass the CCIE R & S written? - Please come to the pages of textbooks, you need to know the "materiel".

Do not consider me a fan of IS-IS, I believe that everything has its own place, and you should not push IS-IS into every enterprise "just to be." But what does not suit me categorically is the amount of training materials and notes on the Internet. It is very difficult to "enter from scratch."

Those whose hearts are captivated by the operator networks, those who are not afraid to know the truth and those who are eager to see IS-IS anywhere, are dedicated.

There is no text article under the cut. Only references and references.
I have already tried to explain the reasons for this form factor in the pilot issue, but the UFO sent me to read-only for “not a shop” and a link to linkmiap.

A good article about the OSI stack, in Russian!

There will be more links in the next release. Actually, the salt will begin there. The second part is not yet recorded, and with your criticism you can influence the release. For the better.
PS Releases are similar to CBT Nuggets. I really like their presentation format. My respects to Jeremy Cioara .
