State Duma tightens responsibility for piracy

On January 12, the State Duma of the Russian Federation passed a law in second reading, from 5 to 6 years increasing the maximum term of liability for violation of copyright and related rights (article 146), as well as for illegal use of a trademark (article 180). Thus, these crimes are transferred to the category of grave - amnesty, in particular, does not apply to them. In addition, as Regnum reports, law enforcement agencies can now use “special tools” (for example, tracking devices) in investigating cases of such violations.
