Available HP ProLiant server models (10 and 100 series)

Hewlett-Packard traditionally has a wide range of servers that can satisfy the needs of both the smallest companies and the monsters from the top ten corporations in the world. And recently there has been a clear shift towards the expansion of the line of entry-level models. On December 1, 2014, the company introduced a new series of ProLiant DL10 servers , focused on companies just starting their own businesses or seeking to minimize the cost of purchasing servers. The ProLiant DL100 or ML100 series offer a greater level of performance and expandability of the system during operation, as compared to the ProLiant DL10, and are targeted at the widest possible range of customers.

It is worth noting that all of the servers in question belong to the ninth generation of servers in the HP ProLiant Generation 9 (Gen9) line. The ProLiant DL160 and ProLiant DL180 models belonging to the ProLiant DL100 series were presented in September 2014. In December 2014, the ProLiant DL10 series was introduced by the ProLiant DL60 and ProLiant DL80 models , as well as the ProLiant DL120 and ProLiant ML150 servers , respectively, belonging to the ProLiant DL100 and ML100 series.

The new servers were based on Intel Haswell microprocessor microarchitecture. This is due to the general specifications for these lines, namely, support for processors from the Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 family and DDR4 RAM.

HP ProLiant DL10 Series

The ProLiant DL 10 server series was developed for small companies or tasks that do not require high performance and capacity from the server. Therefore, the models of the series have limitations on the installed models of processors, the maximum amount of memory and disks on board. Both models of this series available now are designed for mounting in a 19 ”rack. The ProLiant DL60 model is made in the 1U version, and the ProLiant DL80 model in the 2U version.

A distinctive feature of this series is the use of drives only large form factor (LFF) and the use of four RAM slots for each of the processors. In general, the servers of this 10 series are perfect for the role of a domain controller, mail, file or backup server. High-load tasks are better to trust the servers of the older series of 100 or 300.

Restrictions also touched upon the warranty from the manufacturer, which is 1/1/1 - one year for components, one year for replacement and on-site service.

HP ProLiant DL100 and ML100 Series

These server series were designed with a larger range of tasks than the ProLiant DL 10. Therefore, it is possible to choose a configuration from a larger set of options and expand the configuration to a large scale (mainly due to disk and memory). The ProLiant DL 100 series is designed for installation in a 19 ”rack and is represented by a single-processor ProLiant DL120 server in the 1U version and two dual-processor servers - ProLiant DL160 in the 1U version and ProLiant DL180 in the 2U version.

The ProLiant ML150 pedestal server, which belongs to the ProLiant ML 100 series, does not need a 19 ”rack for installation. It has improved support for graphics cards (using PCIe 3.0 expansion slots, it is possible to install two graphics cards of standard width or one double width), which improves its performance when working with graphics.

A distinctive feature of the ProLiant DL 100 and ML 100 series is the use of both large form factor (LFF) and small form factor (SFF) drives and the use of eight slots for RAM for each of the processors (in series 10 - only 4 slots on the processor).

The warranty from the manufacturer is 3/1/1 - three years for components, one year for replacement and on-site service.

Currently, HP has six entry-level models of the 10 and 100 series servers. Therefore, even the smallest company can choose the necessary configuration of its own server. The Intel Haswell microprocessor microarchitecture with support for four-channel memory allowed to increase the number of RAM slots from 12 to 16 in the servers of the 100 series, compared to the servers of the previous generation.

The use of the latest developments in the field of microarchitecture and power supply with 80 PLUS Gold certificates in Hewlett-Packard servers helps to ensure the highest possible performance, taking into account high energy efficiency, compactness of placement, reliability and fault tolerance.

Availability of warranty and product support by the manufacturer according to the 3/1/1 scheme for the 100 series and 1/1/1 for the 10 series allows us to save the company from possible problems at the implementation stage and the initial lifetime.

Finally, support for HP iLO’s built-in management tools (we’ll cover them in the following publications) allows for remote deployment, monitoring, and server maintenance. All this together allows us to gain an advantage over competing offers on the market in this sector.
