Kaspersky Lab specialists
report that in the last week of 2006, the share of spam on Runet was about 79%, which is significantly lower than world
records . In the first seven days of 2007, it fell to 75.9%. Apparently, Russian spammers, unlike their foreign counterparts, prefer to go on vacation, because during the period mentioned, advertising in Russian was delivered in relatively modest portions.
Noteworthy are the qualitative characteristics of the pre-and post-New Year “garbage”, namely, its subject matter. Researchers have noted an "unprecedented jump" in the volume of "adult" mailings. The growth of spam in this category was almost 18%.
“Gone to the minus” while the thematic categories “Leisure and travel”, “Education” and “Real estate”, their shares fell by 7.6%, 5.8% and 0.7%, respectively. The top three in terms of volume were spam “Personal Finance” (18.8%), the mentioned “For adults” (18.1) and spam in the category “Medicines” (17.3).

In addition, spammers actively used the tradition of sending New Year's greetings - many promotional offers were disguised as congratulations to friends, colleagues, and clients. Congratulations disguised viral mailings, containing in the attachment malicious "gift" for the New Year, reports "Laboratory".
