After
selecting “Geektimes” from “Habrahabr”, we actively watched what was happening on each of the resources separately, and in the entire ecosystem of our communities. We watched how the activity changed, what became of the traffic, ratings and other indicators. And although not everything went as planned, in general, we are pleased with the result. “Habrahabr” became more integral and understandable for IT specialists, we removed topics from the resource that prevented the project from being positioned as an exclusively professional resource, and “Geektimes” quickly attracted the attention of the audience and was actively developed by editorial and user efforts.
Dynamics of attendance Geektimes since launch (unique users per day)It is worth admitting that the “Habrahabr” formed as a result of the changes has acquired a rather hardcore direction. A user who happened to be on “Habré” will not immediately understand what is happening and what all these people are talking about. On the one hand, it is wonderful that “Habr” has become specialized and less pop, on the other hand, hardcoreness can scare away a part of the audience that doesn’t need this complexity. It's about users who are interested in management and management, not just development and programming.
While thinking about these things, another thought came to us. And what if we continue the disco and separate the topics interesting to managers from Habra and make a separate project for them? Project management, product management, performance issues, start-ups, investments and marketing online — all these topics are of interest to a wide audience today, but in the framework of Habra they cannot develop in the way they could be developed into a separate specialized project.

So, we present "Megamind"
"Megamind" is the younger brother of "Habrakhabr" in the guise of "Geektimes." On “Megamind” we used the structure and ideology of “Geektimes”, without personalization, as on “Habré”. This branch of our framework has proven itself well, we plan to further develop it actively, modifying for each project individually, depending on the tasks.
On “Megamind” we copied karma, comments, publications, favorites, drafts and all the rest of each user's Habrahabr baggage, including readonly accounts, and transferred to a new project. Similar to “Geektimes” and “Habrahabru” registration on “Megamind” is closed and available only by invitation. As before, you can receive an invitation through the Sandbox, or from an active member of the community.
"Megamind" will be of interest to users interested in issues of management and control. We want to create a resource in which users will have the opportunity to share their thoughts not on the technical, but on the organizational and marketing components of any idea, business or process. Popular Habrahabra hubs, such as
Project Management ,
GTD ,
Freelance ,
IT Learning Process ,
Growth Hacking , all monetization and analytical, have moved to Megamind (with a full list of relocated hubs can be found
here ). Thus, all publications placed in these hubs are no longer available on the Habré.
At "Megamind" we added new hubs to expand the scope of the project and give more opportunities for the audience. New hubs include the following:
Internet Marketing ,
Product Management ,
Startup Development ,
Mobile Applications Analytics ,
Sales Management ,
Increasing Conversions , and many others. We are open to suggestions and are ready to create new hubs that are missing - you just
let us know .
All users and companies that had profiles or cards on the "Habrahabr", transferred to the "Megamind". We understand that three company cards are too much. It happened because we solved other problems. But once it happened, we will definitely fix it and come up with a solution that will help optimize this moment. In the meantime, we give all active corporate subscribers to Habré (the Giant and Business tariffs) a free semi-annual subscription for the same Megamind tariff. We will send the corresponding notice in the near future.
What's next?
We are aware that the launch of another project will affect many indicators, for example, the number of publications viewed on the topic of management. But the example of Geektimes for a couple of months managed to clearly demonstrate that this approach has great potential. Therefore, if it is a step back, it is only to take three steps forward, to have the opportunity to develop in full force, and not to be constrained in the close framework of one site.
Several months have passed since the launch of “Geektimes”, however we are still setting up the work of the project. For "Megamind" also takes time to adjust all the processes. Please treat with understanding and be patient. We are actively working and optimizing the resulting projects as a result of the recent divisions. Having finished the separation, we will finally be able to make the promise: send out invites to new projects, take up the transfer of publications, recalculate the ratings, update the API and our mobile applications. There are many plans, the year has just begun, there is a lot of work ahead.
Summarizing
So, now we have three communities similar to each other, covering as broadly as possible all IT and near-topic topics: two professional - “Habr” and “Megamind”, and helping to expand the horizon “Geektimes”. We also have a “
Toaster ”, which helps to solve problems and find answers to interesting questions, and two service projects: to search for
remote work and
employees to the office . On this, perhaps, we will stop. This is the structure of our projects for a long time. This is what an ecosystem for IT specialists looks like, which we will build and develop.
