On the Chinese Internet, about ten thousand domains were lost by their owners. Presumably, this is due to a recent earthquake in Taiwan, due to which several submarine communication cables have failed. Unable to go online, domain name owners were unable to re-register them in time. It is reported
techlabs.by with reference to the statement of the Chinese center International Network Information.
Owners of DNS servers, despite force majeure circumstances, are not responsible for this loss. However, they decided to develop a scheme whereby the owners of the lost domains will receive some compensation.
At the same time, according to the
information center , representatives of the country's largest domain registrar HiChina Web Solutions Ltd. note that the loss of domains due to earthquakes is possible in theory rather than in practice. If the domain has expired, the rights to it for the former owner are still for one or two months.
