Movable Type is a free blogging platform that is powerful, flexible and easy to use. Regardless of whether you are a novice blogger or a professional, you will certainly enjoy working with MT.
Movable Type already has everything you need for blogging. But besides the already familiar things, MT has several interesting features that distinguish this platform from all the others.
How many blogs do you have? Everything fits!
In Movable Type, you can create as many blogs as you like. One, two, ten, one hundred, one million - all this on one installation.
Please note that you will need to update only once, and not every time for a separate blog. The same goes for plugins - installing and updating them.

Static and dynamic publishing
Due to the fact that by default Movable Type is taught to work with statics (real files are generated on the server), neither Digg-effect nor any other is terrible for a blog - it is resistant to high loads.
In addition, static publishing allows you to publish any files as templates, for example, a robots.txt file, .htaccess, style files, javascript. But that's not all. For certain groups of files that are generated by Movable Type, you can set your extension. The default is .html, but more and more you can find the extension .php, which is quite justified. Indeed, in such files you can use all the features of PHP, including the execution of their own queries to the database.
At any time, you can enable dynamic publishing - at once for all templates or only for those that have been selected manually. There is caching for dynamic publishing. And in the next version, which will be released in the middle of May, a special module will appear, thanks to which you can cache individual parts of the templates.
Media Management
Movable Type has a convenient file manager. It allows you to manage any type of file, while displaying information where a particular file is used.

Powerful template system
Movable Type uses a special template language that is powerful and simple. The syntax is similar to HTML, and in some ways XML. If you are familiar with HTML markup, then mastering the MT template language is easy. You do not need to be a programmer or specifically study any programming language to change the look of your blog.
Using templates, you can customize not only the appearance of your blog, but also the format for displaying content that is practically unlimited. For example, individual templates can be published with the extension you specify, among which may be: php, asp, txt, css, js, pdf, doc, etc.

Tags, tags, tags
Movable Type supports tags not only for posts, but also for media objects, and individual pages. Subsequently, you can filter content by tags, not only in the admin area, but also on the site itself.
All tags can be edited. Moreover, this can be done at the level of a single blog, or at the system level, when tags are edited in all blogs at once.
And something else
In addition to the above, there are other interesting features in MT:
- User roles - standard and own.
- Activity feeds for multiple events (new posts, comments, trackbacks, system activity).
- Reliable spam protection.
- Built-in library of styles, including more than 40 ready-made designs.
- Widgets that allow you to manage site blocks by simply dragging and dropping items.
- Embedded OpenID that allows commentators to log in via LiveJournal, Vox, or any other OpenID identifier.
- Reservation of all that is. You can backup not only content (posts, pages, comments, trackbacks, etc.), but also files that have been downloaded using MT.
For those who better perceive visual information, I prepared a 40-minute
screencast with an overview of all the main features of Movable Type.
Since the insertion of a video from Vimeo is not supported on Habrahabr, the screencast is posted on the MT.ru blog.Oh yeah, I almost forgot =) There is already a
Russian version of Movable Type .
WordPress fans - I love you!
