A week ago, for the sake of entertainment, we decided with a colleague to torture Yandex’s “family filter” on the subject of reliability and morality ... And what we found out - to put it mildly, we were very surprised!
Family search crashed on Yandex.Maps.
In the “Family search” mode - with the right set of words of a “non-family” subject - the image search engine works fine and refuses to issue obscene images. But it is worth making a typo in the set of “taboo vocabulary” - as a caring search engine, it immediately corrects the error and produces thousands of pictures (far from family content) when corrected!
Deciding to test a little deeper, we came to the following conclusions:
1. Some typos in obscene and other "unacceptable" words are automatically corrected, and the search engine will display pictures on the search words.
2. The bug works only on typos, and does not cover typical illiterate spelling errors.
3. Most typos (in the words that are not allowed by Family Search) are automatically corrected not for mats, but for more frequent ordinary words (for example, “trains”). However, there are variants of typos - which all the same give the output a “non-family” result.
Not to be unfounded and in vain not to roll a barrel on Yandex, I bring a couple of screenshots.

Here we are looking for a “non-family” word and, as expected, the Family Filter is fighting back:

... and here we are looking with an error, Yandex helpfully corrects and gives out creepy-non-family content:

As for the example given here: I’ll emphasize that the point is not whether children need to know such words (this is a separate conversation), but the fact that Yandex itself, when correctly typed, considers such words non-childish, and does not show anything. But thanks to the bug - shows, and not the drawings from the anatomy textbook (check for yourself). And the very word “vagina” (and even pictures of it) is, of course, harmless childish pranks compared to what Family Search gives out in other cases, to other words. You can penetrate
here from my colleague - on Habré did not spread this beauty for moral and aesthetic reasons.
Ps. At the time of the publication of the article, Yandex has already fixed everything (after all, the company works very efficiently and well, everyone would be like that) and we can only guess whether it was an old school or it was a temporary bug that we accidentally stumbled upon.
