Nigerian imprisoned for 18 months for cyber attack by a NASA employee

After lengthy proceedings, the Nigerian court sentenced 22-year-old citizen Akim Adejumo (Akeem Adejumo). He was sentenced to one and a half years in prison for penetrating a NASA employee’s computer and stealing passwords, banking information and 25,000 screenshots from there.

Interestingly, the Nigerian guy did not hunt for the US space secrets, but specialized in cyber-robbing women whom he “shot” on a dating site for singles Singlesnet.com, and then tried to install spyware on their computers. Among several hundred American women with whom he came into contact, the scam was a success in respect of three. One of the victims was an employee of NASA. When the investigation department of the US space agency found a Trojan in the NASA local network, operational search activities were carried out. The identity of the offender was quickly identified by the IP address from which he logged into his Yahoo email account. The Americans contacted the Nigerian police special computer crime unit, and the guy received the full program, although he did not download anything secret from NASA.
