On December 14, Omsk will host
GDG DevFest 2014 - a unique opportunity for young and experienced IT specialists to plunge into the world of new and promising information technologies! At the event, you can create your own application using the technological innovations of this year, including the
Android Wear SDK ,
Web Components ,
Polymer and
Cardboard VR SDK, as well as learn all the necessary theory for this!

GDG DevFests is a series of large-scale IT events around the world that focus on Google’s developer technologies, as well as other open mobile and web technologies. At the moment, the geography of DevFest Season includes more than 50 cities
around the world . In Russia, DevFest has been running since 2012. The event is organized by the non-profit community
Google Developer Group .

We talked with one of the organizers of the event, Alexey Korovyansky (@korovyansk), the leader of the Google Developer Group Omsk community, and asked to tell about the event for habr users:
Why do we organize DevFest Omsk
The purpose of the event is to provide participants with opportunities to acquire new knowledge and create their own project in one of the new and promising IT areas. Also GDG DevFest Omsk is an event where new ideas and initiatives are always born, there is an open and fascinating communication on various topics and any interesting professional topics and technologies are discussed. DevFest14 format
This year DevFest will be held in the format of a one-day high-speed hackathon with the following topics:
- Wearables: application development for wearable devices.
- Future of Web Front-end: the creation of web applications of the future.
- AR / VR: virtual and augmented reality programming.
The culmination of the project will be the fair, which will be held December 14 from 18:00 to 19:30 hours. As a result of the fair, an expert jury will determine the best projects that will be awarded with valuable prizes! We also invite everyone to the fair to see and try out the projects created during the event.
And also, as a New Year's Eve gift specifically for the DevFest participants, on December 13, an
educational and discussion seminar will be
held ! During the seminar, experts and community members will talk about the development of applications for Android Wear, using Polymer and Web Components to create web applications, virtual reality programming using Google Cardboard, as well as the basics of Material Design for developers and designers.
From thought to action
In order to participate, it is necessary to: come up with an idea and assemble a team of 2-3 people,
submit an application and receive confirmation from the organizers!
