The worst fears that backdoors are built into Windows, and through them you can bypass the built-in protection using non-standard methods, seem to be coming true. It became known that with the help of Microsoft specialists, special USB devices COFEE (Computer Online Forensic Evidence Extractor) were developed for the police, with the help of which you can within a few seconds remove all confidential information from your computer, including surfing history, encrypted passwords and other private data. The
article says that on such a flash drive is an automated program to run 150 "standard" commands, but at the same time it is reported that the passwords are written in decrypted form. It is not yet clear whether such a device can be considered the “key to the backdoor” or is there a regular program that every programmer can write.
One way or another, Microsoft has already distributed about 2,000 such devices for free to police special forces in 15 countries, including the United States, Poland and Germany. It is possible that in Russia too.
From the point of view of operational and investigative work, the main advantage of such devices is that in many cases there is no need to confiscate a computer entirely, because in the process of this operation valuable data may be lost, and the extra labor costs to nothing.
