Previously, this project was called, in my opinion, more appropriate to its purpose and reflecting the essence - Asterisk @ Home , which meant that it was based on the popular and powerful open VoIP platform - Asterisk PBX . This platform is one of the most popular and powerful servers for building voice communication platforms based on open source and OS Linux. Although there are assemblies for other platforms, including Win32. But self-installation and configuration of such a solution is quite complicated, and there will not always be a specialist who will take care of such a decision. Therefore, the developers decided to create a simple integrated solution suitable for deployment both in a small office and even at home (probably, this is an advanced home, where there is at least one serious administrator user).

Trixbox was built as a disk image, including the operating system, Asterisk platform, and other additional components, such as embedded billing, an account management system with a web interface (by the way, it is used, or at least used before). There is also support for both expansion cards for communication with landlines and the xPL interface for home automation. Additional digital communication capabilities are also supported - voice mail, voice menu and management, queues and priorities of calls, call forwarding, web access to voice mail and other features.

The project is based on CentOS 5.1 OS, which is specially designed for providers and hosters, as well as the latest versions of other components and it is ready for use right from the box, as it is distributed both as an ISO image and immediately in a pre-installed form (image for VMware ).
