Firebird 2014 Conference Report

On October 24-25, 2014, an international conference on Firebird DBMS was held in Prague. 110 participants were present, 18 speakers presented 23 interesting presentations.

The conference was opened by the leading Firebird DBMS developers Dmitry Yemanov and Vlad Horsun, with reports on the new features of Firebird 3, which is being prepared for release in early 2015, and Firebird 4 (2016). The most important news is the reduction of the release cycle and a focus on resiliency and performance.

This year, the conference turned out to be a strong “Russian slant” - in addition to the leading developers, there were Pavel Zotov (Firebird QA) from Russia with a story about a realistic test of highly loaded Firebird databases, Roman Simakov, a leading RedBase developer (a commercial version of Firebird with certification for Russian state organizations). ), as well as Alexey Kovyazin and Dmitry Kuzmenko from IBase.ru ( IBSurgeon ).

In addition, 2 platinum and 1 silver sponsor were from Russia - Moscow Exchange, iBase (IBSurgeon) and RedSoft, respectively.
Of course, besides the Russians, there were speakers from the USA, Brazil, Great Britain, France, the Netherlands and other countries.
')
Ann Harrison and Jim Starkey were special guest speakers at the conference. Jim Starkey is known for being the original developer of InterBase (back in the 1980s), as well as the architect of solutions such as Falcon (MySQL), NuoDB, Netfrastructure, and AmorphousDB.
