Google will mark mobile sites in search results

Surely many of you happened to switch from Google mobile search results to non-optimized sites for viewing on smartphones. Pages with tiny links and hard-to-read text, which in addition do not fit on the device screen, produce an unfavorable impression.

In order to prevent possible inconveniences for mobile users when browsing websites, we’ll mark pages that are optimized for smartphones and tablets in our search results.

Mobile tag in search results

The “Mobile” mark will appear in the Search results in the next few weeks. This label will be marked by pages that are checked by Googlebot and meet the following requirements:

• The site almost does not use technologies that are not supported by mobile devices, such as Flash.
• The text can be read without scaling.
• The page design adapts to the screen size, so the visitor does not need to zoom and use horizontal scrolling.
• Links are located at a sufficient distance from each other, they are convenient to click.

How to find out if your pages meet the new requirements:

• Use the optimization test for mobile devices .
• Check out the updated guide for webmasters to create and optimize mobile versions of sites.
• View mobile browsing experience in Webmaster Tools. It will help to identify the main problems when viewing from smartphones and tablets not one page, but the whole of your site.
• If you are using a content management system, read an external software guide, such as WordPress or Joomla. It will help you to implement a template optimized for mobile devices for your content.

In the near future, the documentation and tools listed above will be available in Russian ( update : from December 10, 2014 already available).

The new label will help mobile users to find sites that are convenient for viewing. It is planned that when searching on mobile devices, the availability of the corresponding optimization will be taken into account when ranking the results.
