ReactOS 0.3.17 - “numerological” release of the operating system
Good day!
My name is Alexey Bragin. I welcome all guests at the opening of the blog of the ReactOS Foundation company , which was made possible thanks to the support program for start-ups from Thematic Media.
On behalf of the entire development team of the ReactOS project, I present to your attention a new release of our operating system at number 0.3.17 As reported on the site of our project, the main new feature of this release is the inclusion of NTVDM, an emulator that supports a large number of 16-bit applications and is so long expected by the community. NTVDM is still in development, but we believe that at this stage of its development, it has already been completed enough to be presented to the public. ')
However, this is not the only significant improvement in release 0.3.17. It is worth noting the serious progress in correcting errors in font processing:
Unfortunately, our developments on the support of the NTFS file system and the new file shell explorer_new were not included in the release, as we want to bring them to a more decent state. However, they will very soon be fully available in nightly assemblies and, of course, in the next release at number 0.4.
Yes, yes, you heard right, a series of releases 0.3. XY came CTRL + C. Ahead 0.4 and a few surprises!
ReactOS is rapidly approaching the stage when changes from version to version will consist only in a slight refinement and correction of already existing functions. This will be an important milestone in the development of the project, because after passing it we will be able to recommend using ReactOS on a permanent basis to anyone who wants to do this.
PS If you still have not guessed why this release is called “numerological” by me, pay attention to the version number, release date and url of the release news . Honestly, we did not achieve this intentionally.
