Yandex.Maps in the three-dimensional world. Altitude, the device of cities and how people are oriented in them

On Yandex.Maps, you can now distinguish a high-rise from a one-story building and find out a famous building from a 3D model - all the objects on them have become voluminous. Now on the cards there are more than 1000 models of special structures in different cities, with time they will become more.

For this project, we naturally had to find out and clarify the height of all buildings in different cities. Naturally, we could not get past such a chance to look at the cities and their device from a new angle - in order to be able to better feel the heterogeneity or, on the contrary, the uniformity of development, we drew thermal maps of altitude.

')
In Moscow, almost 4.5 thousand high - above 50 meters - buildings. Most of these houses in Troparevo-Nikulino, Ramenki, Mitino, Obruchevsky area and Yasenevo. About 90 buildings in Moscow - above 100 meters. Presnensky district, Ramenki, Khoroshevsky district, Troparevo-Nikulino and East Biryulyovo lead in the number of such buildings. The tallest building in the city is the Ostankino Tower. For the capital, we have drawn models of the Moscow Kremlin , the Cathedral of Christ the Savior , the main building of Moscow State University , the Ostankino Tower and many other objects that serve as landmarks for people.

St. Petersburg ranks second among million-plus cities by the number of tall buildings - above 50 meters. There are about 800 such buildings in the city. According to this indicator, St. Petersburg is second only to Moscow, where there are 4.5 thousand tall buildings. On its map you can see a 3D model of the Trinity Cathedral , the Hermitage , and the Peter and Paul Cathedral .

Nizhny Novgorod ranks sixth among million-plus cities by the number of tall buildings - above 50 meters. The city has about 180 such buildings. According to this indicator, Nizhny Novgorod is overtaken only by Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk and Rostov-on-Don.

Ekaterinburg ranks third among million-plus cities by the number of tall buildings - above 50 meters. There are about 270 such buildings in the city. According to this indicator, Ekaterinburg is second only to Moscow and St. Petersburg - about 4.5 thousand and about 800 buildings above 50 meters, respectively.

And here you can see the heat maps of Volgograd, Rostov-on-Don, Voronezh, Samara, Kazan, Omsk, Ufa, Krasnoyarsk, Perm and Chelyabinsk.

If you want to adjust the altitude of your native city, this can be done on the People’s Map . From today, there is an opportunity to indicate the height of buildings - immediately after entering the figure, the object will become voluminous and rise to the desired height on the “Scheme” layer.

New maps are available for Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan on maps.yandex.ru, in Yandex.Maps mobile applications, as well as through the API .
