Apple and Alibaba to cooperate in the market of mobile payments

Just yesterday, in front of the visitors of the technology conference of The Wall Street Journal, the cooperation of two powerful payment systems has matured. The head of the board of directors of Alibaba Group, Jack Ma, said that he is open to cooperation with Apple in the field of mobile payments, reports Reuters.

Speaking at the Wall Street Journal Digital Live conference on Monday, Ma said he respects Apple CEO Tim Cook a lot. “I hope that we can do something together,” he said when asked if the chances of cooperation between Alipay and Apple.

Immediately after the interview with Ma, Tim Cook took the stage, who was immediately asked about the attitude to the words of the head of Alibaba. Highly commented on the Alibaba team, Cook said that they intend to meet in Ma this week and hold preliminary talks.

“I really respect Jack. Apple loves to work with evil and intelligent leaders who create flexible dynamic teams and great products, ”said Cook,“ I think we will find points of contact. ”

Alibaba’s Alipay company is the largest payment service in China, and the fortune of their founder, Jack Ma, is estimated at $ 25 billion, although he owns only 7.8% of the company's shares. The capitalization of the company, the largest shareholders of which are SoftBank (32.4%), Yahoo (16.3%) is $ 241 billion. Alibaba handles more e-commerce transactions than Amazon.com and eBay combined, but so far its operations have focused on the Chinese domestic market.

However, Ma said earlier that he would like to sell American and European products in China in order to change the typical flow of goods for China in 10-15 years.

The head of Alibaba is interested in investing in American companies and intends to visit a number of Hollywood studios, looking after objects for investment. He has already acquired some small American companies, in particular the niche online store 11Main and Ma is not going to stop there.

Apple, having presented new products, last week entered a new mobile payment market for itself, and although it thoroughly prepared for it, enlisting the support of VISA, Mastercard and more than 250 banks and financial institutions, it needs such an influential partner in the Asian market Alibaba.
