Graphs

Ha! And that's not a typo!

For a long time he played with these words "graphics" - "graffiti"; Of course, they are single root. All these Greek "grafo". Only the Italians stylized a bit (they are good at it;)

And I decided to write about the results of this word formation. The wretchedness and dullness of the thinking of many analysts and “people like analysts” is often striking. Well, open, for example, the Ekselevsky file that your colleague sent you on Wednesday. I see you already sick. Yes, another rubbish.

I have repeatedly urged to bring figures brighter. Use programs wisely and aesthetics. Now let's try to do without any software. Forward to the sources! ;)

See what's the matter. Charts are not created to dump all your indicators on the bars or rulers. The signatures of the axes need to be reduced, and the signatures to the data should be applied only if something needs to be emphasized.

Indeed, in the graph it is possible and necessary to show the character and soul of the data, and not their strength and dexterity. So that any person can easily make a diagnosis. Of course, a lot depends on the analyst - which graph you choose, in which section you present it, so it will play out.

Back in 1801, William Playfair published the first pie chart in history (more about that here ). As you understand, nothing has changed. Two hundred years, and the good old pie chart is hearty.

Drawn diagrams are extremely useful in many cases.

For presentations, it's a nice thing (if the audience is adequate. Perhaps you should not experiment in front of hardened managers from the top of the organizational structure).
And do not tremble before accuracy. Certainly, you will not draw a 15% interest by hand from hand. But it is not necessary for anyone. Conscious life is not for that consists of 250 thousand hours to notice it.

I am sure there is something to disagree with. But if anyone has an idea to develop the use of such graphs - well in the blog .
