Samsung set a record speed of 7.5 Gbps in 5G networks

Good afternoon, Habr!

Samsung Electronics has achieved two important milestones in the development of fifth-generation (5G) telecommunications network technologies, achieving a record data transfer rate of 7.5 Gbit / s (940 MB / s) with stationary testing and a stable connection of 1.2 Gbit / s. (150 MB / s) in a car moving at a speed exceeding 100 km / h.

Samsung conducted the industry's first successful mobile 5G mobile test in open space. All previous 5G tests were conducted indoors and in laboratories. Samsung’s 5G mobile test brought the tests to a new level, as it was conducted on a 4.35 km long professional racetrack using a specially equipped vehicle.

Both stationary and mobile tests of the 5G network were conducted at a frequency of 28 GHz. Up to this point, the 28 GHz band has not been claimed, despite its obvious speed advantages, and all because it is usually used to transmit information over short distances. Nevertheless, Samsung has managed to overcome this limitation thanks to Hybrid Adaptive Array Technology, which uses millimeter frequency bands to increase the effective range of the signal. Although the 5G standard has not yet been ratified, it is expected that the data transfer rate in fifth-generation networks will exceed the speed in 4G LTE networks tenfold.

The latest record is 7 times higher than the previous test results, which were held in May 2013. Then Samsung became the first company that managed to achieve a data transfer rate of 1 Gbit / s on a 5G network at a frequency of 28 GHz.

Despite its own technological breakthroughs and achievements, Samsung continues to attract other market participants to participate in discussions, including through standardization organizations, to develop a common vision and direction for the development of the 5G standard. More recently, Samsung has offered other market participants a set of characteristics of the 5G Rainbow, in which seven main technical pillars of the 5G technology have been derived. This list includes: maximum data transfer rate, spectral efficiency, speed of movement, data transfer rate within a cell cell, the number of simultaneous connections, communication delays and cost. To eliminate all technical obstacles, Samsung is already developing a wide range of key technologies, such as high-bandwidth data transmission technology, multiple access schemes and low-latency network development.
