FOWD is conducted by

Report “Finding Inspiration For Design” by Patrick McNeil
')
I arrived late for the opening at Kensington Town Hall, because of the penguin syndrome in the subway, the first speaker Patrick McNeil (Patrick McNeil,
www.designmeltdown.com ), has already begun to talk about how to find inspiration for creating good design. while avoiding plagiarism, as well as about design trends today and about their predictions about this.

After the report of Patrick, Paul God came on the scene (
Paul Boag , I will tell you more about him in the second part), one of the founders of
Headscape and the conference host. He introduced the following speakers: Andy Clarke and Steve Pierce (Andy Clarke,
Stuff & Nonsense ; Steve Pearce,
Poke ).
A short and funny talk about UX. The quality of the presentation and slides is beyond praise. It is a pity that they have not yet posted the slides.
UPD: laid out .

Then there was a rather raw presentation about the development of the Aston Martin website, made using Silverlight.
Benedict Ireland stumbled, spoke quietly, showed some unintelligible slides. But I liked the site more or less. In fact, this is a NFS-like car configurator with a high level of detail (a hinge in the door skin was shown, I think this is too much) and a beautiful interface.
Designing the User Experience Curve, Andy Budd
After a 40-minute break, Andy Budd (
Clearleft ) came on the scene with a report on 7 important points of contact between the user and the site (the application), good examples of UX in the real world and their use on the network. Very interesting and informative report, one of the best.

In fact, it was a half-hour entertainment break. Each team had 2 sessions of 5 minutes, they worked on one picture. In the meantime, one team drew, Andy chatted with the other. Everything is
documented , but the

Print is the new web by Elliot Jay Stokes
Indeed, why can't we take inspiration from the printing industry? Even as we can. Moreover, we must not lose sight of the print design! The plot of one of the slides: one of the pictures in the series “Love Is ...”, embracing couple. Elliot's comment: “This is me and web design! I love web design, but I crossed my fingers behind my back, because I have a love affair with printing! ”Elliott showed Oleg Pashchenko’s
Conclave Obscurum as one of the illustrations, but unfortunately, he forgot how Oleg's name is. His mistakes blame the effect of strong beer, which he drank.
Elliot works at
Carsonified and runs the
elliotjaystocks.com blog.
SlidesMP3Live blogging sessionFrom Design to Deployment, John Hicks
Hicks (
Hicksdesign ) came up with an excellent report describing all stages of the development of the site
www.cheesophile.com . Easy (because of the slogan “Oh, what a friend we have in cheeses!”?), But a very succinct presentation. Rather, it is useful for beginners who do not yet fully understand the process, but it was nice to realize that in 95% of the cases we think the same way with Hicks. One interesting feature: the web standards (as well as semantic layout, the use of css-frameworks, links to content, etc.) as a matter of what to start using, was not mentioned at all. Such questions were joked like dinosaurs. Hicks is a very lively and cheerful man, he jokes all the time, he looks like our
Bunshu Trachtenberg.

In general, I really liked the conference, but the best was ahead: a seminar with Hannah Donovan (From product to service) and Paul God (Charm clients and win pitches). But more about that next time.
