Pirate Bay has started promoting a new free VPN

The last few days on the main page of the Pirate Bay, instead of their own logo, there is a promo of a new free VPN - FrootVPN . The project’s page says that the service is based in Sweden and is protected by Swedish laws, provides its services for free using several 10-gigabit channels and does not keep any logs.

What do we know about those who posted this link, except for amazing tolerance to jpg-artifacts on logos?

This is not the first example of a promo on the main Pirate Bay, but YouTube videos are usually there.

Of course, the project aroused great interest among users and, first of all, the question - can it be trusted? On reddit discussion of the project was developed. It cites a response from the authors of the service given to one of the interested users:
')
We decided that we would keep the project free for as long as we could. Our resources should be enough for at least a few months in advance, but we may change our mind soon. However, if FrootVPN starts to charge users, it will be lower than other VPN providers on the market.

The people who are behind FrootVPN, support freedom and want the Internet to be uncensored =)

The subtlety of the situation is that we do not know not only the creators of FrootVPN, but also the last publicly known leaders of Pirate Bay, Peter Sunde and Gottfried Svartholm, are now in prison. On the one hand, this explains the caution of all those involved in the project, on the other - how can you trust who knows, and even offering free cheese? After all, people who choose “free of charge and without SMS” and VPN are usually useless.

The TorrentFreak publication contacted the Pirate Bay team, and they learned from them that FrootVPN is a third-party project, and the logo on the main one is free, in support of the friendly project of people they know. However, no matter how convincing it may sound, the question on whose money the project is being made remains open.
