Facebook doubles anti-hacker prize

Facebook has doubled the award for developers and information security experts for detecting vulnerabilities in the code of their network’s advertising system. Until now, the average premium for detecting a bug was $ 500, and now the payout is increased to $ 1000.



The decision to allocate more money to the prize fund to encourage White Hats, followed after a series of checks by Facebook security experts.

During the checks, a number of vulnerabilities were identified, but staff experts wanted to attract an informal audit, not excluding that independent testers could discover what they might have missed.
At the same time, the company published 4 parts of the instructions for White Hackers, which will help them to report the found vulnerabilities faster and easier and, accordingly, receive their rewards.

Facebook security specialist Colin Green wrote in his blog that the minimum “double tariff” will be valid until the end of 2014.

The program for hacker-volunteers Bounty was established in 2011. Since then, more than $ 3 million has been paid on it in the form of a reward to “White Hats”.
