There will be three 3G operators in Russia

According to the results of the first competition for 3G services of the third generation in Russia, it is planned to issue three licenses. This was announced by the Minister of Information Technology and Communications Leonid Reiman. According to him, the conditions of the competition will be announced before the end of 2006. It is planned to hold a competition and sum it up until March-April 2007, Prime-TASS reports.

The number of licenses issued for 3G services is determined by the availability of a free radio frequency resource for communication networks of this standard. At the same time, Reiman did not rule out that in time, a fourth license for 3G services could be granted in Russia.

According to reports from unofficial sources, all three licenses will go to mobile operators that are included in the “big three” - MTS, Beeline and MegaFon.
