SALT: smart beacon protects wallet and phone

The problem of losing smartphones and wallets is one of the most relevant for residents of modern cities. A smartphone is one of the things that people most often forget: in a taxi, in a cafe, on a visit or at work. The wallet is forgotten less often, but the loss of a wallet is even more unpleasant than the loss of a smartphone.

Now all sorts of devices have gone into action, allowing to track the location of the object on which such a device is fixed. We are talking about radio beacons, giving a signal when the user is removed at a certain distance. Developers SALT went even further, their device, in addition to tracking the location of things in which this beacon is located, performs a series of operations with a smartphone, if it moves away from the beacon for a certain distance.

SALT features

This gadget is an advanced radio beacon for which the corresponding mobile application was created. The beacon is not so small, but it is designed to protect and search for a limited number of things. More specifically, this is a wallet and a smartphone.

SALT looks like a credit card, and on the front of the card there is a unique number identifying the card. Inside - the battery, which is enough to work autonomously for a year and a radio signal generator, with a Bluetooth module.



SALT comes with a mobile phone application. When removing the card from the smartphone at a distance of about 10 meters, the phone is blocked. You can unlock it using PIN. The developers claim that this scheme helps to protect the phone from the curious hands of colleagues / relatives, in case the phone is left unattended.

At the same time, you can block both the phone as a whole and just block access to some applications (for example, SMS, e-mail).



If a person doesn’t forget the phone, but a wallet or a handbag, with SALT inside, then when removed a short distance (left the cafe, and moved away a little), the phone will alert the user, showing where the gadget / wallet is now. When removed a few meters a person will have time to return before someone has time to pocket a wallet, in the literal sense of the word.

Now manufacturers collect funds for Kickstarter, and if the amount of 50 thousand dollars will be collected, the gadget will go on sale in early 2015 at a price of 15 dollars.
