California will allow unmanned vehicles to drive through busy streets

Hi, Habr!

It would seem that this is great news for those who are eager to quickly get a self-propelled car that does not require a driver. Tests of drones Google, Mercedes-Benz and Audi moved to a new stage: all three companies received special permission from the authorities of California. But did this change anything?

A total of 29 licenses issued - that is, 29 cars without drivers will ride through the busy sunny streets of the state. Of these, 25 are Toyota Lexus SUVs from Google, and a couple of licenses went to Mercedes and Audi.

It should be said that automakers have been testing drones in this state for several years. Yes, yes, without permissions. But suddenly the state decided to make a law that would regulate the finding of such cars on public roads. Google even had to put a temporary steering wheel in cars under the same law.

So what does this change? It’s just that a separate precedent has been created in a single state. By the way, requirements for registration of a special license for unmanned vehicles already exist, for example, in Michigan, Nevada and Florida.

I wonder when the unmanned cars will reach Russia, how will they be fined at the traffic police posts?
