Security Council wants to isolate Russia from the global Internet

However, an unnamed representative of the Ministry of Finance does not exclude that at the time of implementation of such a mechanism everywhere, it will be necessary to disconnect the country from the Internet, although not for a long time.

Exercises conducted by the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media showed that the Russian Internet is vulnerable, and measures to minimize risks, including the possibility of temporarily disconnecting the runet from the outside world, are being discussed, the special services officer said.

The permanent disconnection of access to the international network is out of the question, emphasize the employees of a large telecom operator and non-profit organization. But Russian operators will have to adjust the equipment so that in case of an emergency the Russian Internet can be quickly disconnected from the global one. An emergency can be considered both military actions and, for example, serious protest actions inside the country.

Also, officials are planning to discuss the issue of the transfer of authority of domain administrators from the current national coordinators directly to Rossvyaz. It is quite obvious that this is being done in order to save the government from the bureaucratic obstacles it does not need, and to be able to plug any unwanted resource by simply dividing it.
