Quite a large number of people remember or know this, at one time, cult game like Transport Tycoon and the equally popular continuation of Transport Tycoon Deluxe from MicroProse Software. And if someone does not know these two games, then I think this article will be interesting to them if they like all kinds of managers.
In this article I want to tell about the history of these two games, as well as in what state the simulator of this kind is today.
Railroad Tycoons or How it all began
Railroad tycoon
It all started with the release of Railroad Tycoon back in 1990.

')
Its essence was as follows: You could choose one of four maps - the East of the USA (from 1830), the West of the USA (from 1866), England (from 1828), Europe (from 1900) - and gradually create your railway empire. Everything was simple enough.
Railroad tycoon deluxe
Three years have passed and MicroProse has released a continuation of railroad manager Railroad Tycoon Deluxe.

It was an improved version of the game: there were more trains and railways.
Railroad tycoon II
This is not the end of the Railroad Tycoon series: in 1998, GOD was developed, and Gathering of Developers released the Railroad Tycoon II, but this is another story.
Transport Tycoons or How it ended ... almost
Transport tycoon
In 1994, just a year after the release of Railroad Tycoon Deluxe, a completely new economic manager, Transport Tycoon, was released.

Compared to Railroad Tycoons, this game has undergone dramatic changes. Now the user is not only building a network of railways, but also engaged in the management of air, water and road transport.
Transport Tycoon Deluxe
In 1995, after another year, a sequel came out with the already branded addition of the name: Transport Tycoon Deluxe.

As it was supposed to Deluxe'u - it was an expanded and improved version of the previous Tycoon'a.
And after that there was silence ... although not complete - all sorts of patches came out, but they did not win much popularity.
Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe
And this silence lasted right up to 2003, until the project OpenTTD was created (stands for Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe).

OpenTTD is a complete and open source Transport Tycoon Deluxe clone. In this Tycoon, some pretty convenient features are implemented, for example, the construction of diagonal paths in two clicks, the change of all settings options (similar to TTD Patch) directly from the menu, compatibility with Linux, work in windowed mode, etc.
The latest generally available version is OpenTTD 0.6.0 from 2008-04-01.
