WiMAX comes to India
According to GigaOm , on Thursday the Indian company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. launched a second fixed WiMAX network in the country in 4 rural areas and 6 large cities, including 4 “technological oasis” of India - Bangalore, Chennai, Pun and Hyderabad. Network capacities will be widely in demand in numerous Western and local IT companies.
The first major WiMAX network was built earlier this year by the same contractor, California-based Aperto, for another Indian carrier, VSNL. Currently, it is present in 65 localities, with a planned presence of 200.
