How to allocate a process a certain number of cores / processors on a multi-core system

In Windows XP, most likely in Vista, it is possible to choose how many cores / processors can use any process in the system.


For this you need:

1. Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc);
2. Go to the tab "Processes";
3. Click on the desired process with the right mouse button and select the menu item “Set Compliance ...”, alas, there is no translation for other languages, the only thing I can say is that this is the very last menu item
   
   
4. In the window that opens, choose which cores / processors you can use the process and click on the “Ok” button
   
   

Now the most gluttonous process will not put the whole system on the shoulder blades :)

PS I personally found this useful with the game Colin McRae "DiRT", it terribly slowed down at me, so it was impossible to play if you leave 1/2 of the core to it, then everything becomes normal.
