AirVR video glasses: Samsung Gear VR for iPad

It looks a little weird, but it works.

Not so long ago on Habré was published information about the video glasses from Samsung , which use the large screen Samsung Note 4 and the computing capabilities of this device as a display and computing system. Without Note 4, Samsung Gear VR's video glasses are just a plastic mask with eyepieces and a small amount of electronics.

The idea of creating such a device is quite promising, and the other day on the Web there was information about a similar device, known as AirVR. These are also combo video glasses in which, instead of Samsung Note 4, the iPad Mini (Retina) or Phone 6 Plus is used.

The system works in the usual way: we insert a tablet or smartphone into the slots, turn it on, and put video glasses on the head. The developers have also foreseen the possibility of connecting additional accessories, for example, a game controller: all the ports of the tablet / phone remain open while using the gadget in AirVR.

As in the case of Gear VR, video glasses for iPad / iPhone react to turns of the user's head, a similar action takes place in the virtual world on the device display.

Now, AirVR developers are raising funds using Kickstarter to launch mass production of the device, all they need is about 20 thousand dollars (Canadian, but the rate against the US dollar is almost the same, the difference is small), and on the very first day of the campaign about 10% has already been collected this amount.

The full price of AirVR is 49 Canadian dollars (47-48 US dollars).

Probably, soon similar devices will appear for other smartphones and tablets.
