Local Motors company printed the car in just 6 days

3D printing is increasingly penetrating into all areas of our life. They print toys, print rocket engines and gold jewelry, print even cars. On Habré already wrote about a printed car, but then it was mentioned that the process takes several weeks.

Now everything has changed: the company Local Motors has printed a fully functional car, which took only 6 days. And the work was carried out not in the laboratory, but under the camera sights, at the international show International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) .

Work began on Sunday, and it was finished on Saturday. As a result - the little car "Strati" was born. Details for him were created from ABC plastic reinforced with carbon fiber fibers.



The very beginning of work

Creation of the car was carried out using Big Area Additive Manufacturing - a 3D printer capable of operating with a capacity of 4.5 kg of plastic per hour.



Of course, there are also functional elements in the car, which so far cannot be created on 3D printers. This is a battery ("Strati" - electric vehicle), electric motor, wiring, suspension.



Immediately after the completion of the work, the little car started off and went to demonstrate its own capabilities and design. Already this year, developers are hoping to launch the commercial release of Strati.
