The Chinese demonstrate patriotism in their IM pagers

To counter Western propaganda about human rights abuses and the Olympics boycott, Chinese Internet users organized an unusual flash mob. They are massively adding a special heart icon and the words “China” (“I love China”) to IM-pagers. Thus, they express support for their native country.

Those bloggers who have Chinese friends in ICQ claim that more than half of their friends support this action. They all hung this badge near their name in the contact list.

Detractors say that the Chinese media deliberately inflated this scandal and taught it to the Chinese in the wrong light to play on the feeling of patriotism. One way or another, this flash mob is a clear manifestation of Chinese nationalism, which they openly demonstrate to the whole world.
